After-School

PROGRAM OVERVIEW

New Beginnings offers safe and secure, academically rich, recreational programs that promote academic and social development through fun, stimulating, enriching activities for the children in our care. These include academic support for homework; our reading enrichment program called REESES (Reading Excites Every Student Every Second); arts and crafts, indoor games, Lego City, Karate, and Robotics. Program staff and tutors work with students in our afterschool program to facilitate and support these student activities. When students arrive in the afterschool program, they receive a snack, get academic support with homework and reading, and then participate in recreational activities.

AMERICA READS/AMERICA COUNTS TUTORS

America Reads and America Counts tutors from IUPUI and the University of Indianapolis implement our R.E.E.S.E.S (Reading Excites Every Student Every Second) and Math Maniacs programs by providing one-on-one and small group reading and math sessions with students Sessions are conducted Monday through Friday and students work on homework assignments, engage in STEM activities and participate in academic games.

CONNECTING HEARTS AT HOME PROGRAM

The Connecting Hearts at Home program provides STEM activities and reading sessions with students. Connecting Hearts at Home is provided through employees at Eli Lilly and Company.

RECREATIONAL ACTIVITIES

Students participate in board games, Karate, kickball, Bop It and Connect 4 contests. Students spend fun-filled time in Lego City making 3-D objects and designs.

FIELD TRIPS

Students go on various academic and recreational field trips, such as the Indianapolis Zoo, Splash Island, and UniverSoul Circus.
